The Challenge
CCTV Hire & Sales Ltd deploys rapid deployment video surveillance systems across the UK, and overseas. Installations range from overnight setups to multi-year operations, all requiring continuous and reliable power for four cameras, a recorder, a network switch and a router. Many sites, particularly construction projects, have no access to mains power. Due to the UK’s weather, solar panels alone cannot provide a reliable year round supply. Their previous hydrogen fuel cell solution reduced reliance on solar but still required site visits every two to four weeks. For remote and difficult to access locations, they needed a dependable, low-maintenance power source that could significantly extend the time between site visits for refuelling.
The Solution
They selected the EFOY Pro 1800 Fuel Cell for its proven reliability and low fuel consumption. Installed inside an IP66 rated enclosure within each tower, the fuel cell operates in hybrid mode alongside a 12V 270Ah lithium battery and solar panels. The EFOY automatically activates when battery voltage drops below a set threshold, ensuring uninterrupted service. Through the EFOY Cloud platform, they receive real time updates on fuel levels, allowing them to plan refuelling trips efficiently and avoid unnecessary site visits.

How it Works
The EFOY continuously monitors the battery voltage, automatically turning on and off to charge the batteries. It effectively acts as a ‘battery charger’ ensuring that the batteries are kept within the optimal voltage range. Compared to an internal combustion generator, the EFOY fuel cell has few moving parts providing higher levels of reliability and reduced noise levels. The only emissions it produces are tiny amount of carbon dioxide and water.
