Remote Power

Getting power to remote applications such as environmental monitoring or CCTV cameras has often caused problems. For permanent sites the cost of installing a new grid connection can run into hundreds of thousands of pounds and is often vulnerable to copper theft. The alternatives are generators, batteries, renewables or fuel cells.

Generators will require refueling, are noisy and prone to theft. Batteries offer a silent option but will need to be replaced on a regular basis once their state of charge drops. In remote areas it can be very costly to send an engineer out to make this change. Renewables are an attractive option for keeping the batteries topped up, however they dependent on either wind or sun. When these are absent you run the risk of the site going down.

Fuel Cells are quickly becoming the preferred option for remote power.

  • They are silent so don’t draw unwanted attention
  • They are clean so can be used in sensitive areas
  • Fuel density is very high:: 1l of fuel = 1kWh (at 12VDC, 30l of fuel contains 2,500Ah)
  • They are light and compact so can be installed easily into remote locations
  • Remote Monitoring allows you to keep check on the fuel level so as not to make unnecessary visits

Fuel Cell Systems can help you specify the right fuel cell for your application and design it into your existing solution enabling you to deploy more quickly and save money on the running costs.
